The modern woman refuses to be pigeonholed. Her career aspirations are as bold and unique as they come.

Bold and unconventional career choices for modern women today.

These days more and more people are looking at unique or unconventional career options. Many of these careers appear lucrative as they are less explored, while in some cases the person pursuing them may be passionate about that particular vocation.

The tendency for students to appear for medical and entrance exams en masse is slowly becoming a thing of the past as they explore newer career roles. It is, therefore, no surprise that women are avoiding getting pigeonholed into traditional careers like teaching, nursing, administration etc. and moving on to more challenging or offbeat roles.

Let's take a look at some of these career options:

Fashion photographer

Women are mostly seen as models in front of the camera, and fashion photography is mainly dominated by ace male photographers. But these days, it is emerging as a popular career choice among women as well. Fashion photography is a great career for someone who is creatively inclined and wants to capture the beauty of fashion. If the camera interests you, you should learn more about handling it and see if you have the talent and inclination to make a career out of fashion photography. There are diploma courses that can help you develop the technical side of fashion photography.

Blogger

Blogging is a trendy alternative career option for women that emerged in the last decade or so. It is a profession that has the potential of bringing in a lot of money and offers excellent work-life balance. You can blog from the comfort of your home, but there’s a lot of hard work, planning, and perseverance involved in becoming a successful blogger. Blogging is all about expressing your views and opinions about people, places, objects – pretty much anything that interest you. You can focus on subjects that interest you; such as video blogging, travel blogging, literature, food, politics etc.

Biking

India as a society is biased against female riders, and motorcycling has always been associated with men. Even the manufacturers’ marketing campaigns of motorcycles ooze machismo and show little interest in the fairer sex. But society is evolving and we can see a lot more female bikers who are pursuing riding as a career of their choice. The numbers of female bikers are on the rise; we can see this by reading about the remarkable journeys of these fabulous women. More and more women are getting inspired to take up biking professionally and for leisure.

Mountaineering

Mountaineering is one of the toughest – but also one of the most satisfying – careers one can think of. It requires a lot of strength, skill, and stamina to scale heights, and most importantly, it requires one to smash stereotypes. Mountaineering is still considered to be a male bastion but women like Premlata Agarwal, Santosh Yadav, and Arunima Sinha have made India proud in the field of mountaineering and encouraged other women to follow this career path.

Celebrity manager

For any star-struck teenager, becoming a celebrity manager can be a dream come true. What if you become one and get to manage your favourite star? Female celebrity managers have managed even top celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, and Akshay Kumar, so although it may be offbeat, it is not unexplored territory. But female celebrity managers are a relatively recent phenomenon, as not many celebs had female managers in the past.

Diving

If you love spending time in the water, diving can be an exciting career option. It is a financially rewarding profession, particularly for those who are paid for their diving skills to assist tourists or for industrial purposes. Many institutes give you the necessary training and you have a variety of career options – scuba diver, snorkeler, diving instructor, deep sea diver, etc.

Women are becoming more adventurous when it comes to picking a career. We encourage you to identify your passion and talent, and choose a career that appeals to you. Your new career should give you joy and make you look forward to going to work every morning, even on Mondays!
